Here Comes the Canadian Bride!
Tuxedo Rental - Moores Clothing for Men
Today, Mr. Bloom and I went to Moores Clothing for Men on Granville St. between W. Georgia and W. Hastings St. Their website is here: http://www.mooresformalwear.com . It’s walk-in service, no appointment required. Surprisingly, it was a busy day for them on this very rainy day. After waiting for about 15 minutes, we were helped by one of their consultants, Colin. He is great! He escorted us to their tuxedo rental consulting desk area where he proceeded to show us their picture catalogue of tuxedos. We went through the catalogues. Afterwards, he asked us what struck us the most. After Mr. Bloom gave his opinion, Colin let us know that the catalogue was ordered by most popular.
The most popular tuxedo were the two newest brands to hit the tuxedo market, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. I really like the 100s series Calvin Klein 2-button notch tuxedo. Mr. Bloom likes the cut of the 3-button Ralph Lauren but did not want to be in pin-stripes for our wedding. So, Mr. Bloom chose to go with the Joseph & Feiss 3-button notch tuxedo in solid black with pleated pants. I thought he’d go with the flat front pants because it looks more relaxed, but Mr. Bloom surprised me by selecting the more formal pleated pant. Here is a photo of his tuxedo that I recreated using Moores “Create Your Tuxedo” website feature:

Mr. Bloom originally picked out the bluish silver vest and tie. I brought my cranberry hobo bag which is the same colour as my bridesmaids’ dresses and our wedding colour motif. Side-by-side, the bluish silver did not match the cranberry. We could have opted for a darker silver or lighter grey, but to me, it didn’t stand out enough. We chose the ivory vest and tie so that Mr. Bloom can really stand out as the groom.
The groomsmen will be wearing dark red/burgundy vest and tie. Mr. Bloom picked the darker herringbone vest right away. I think it looks sharp! It’s not so red that the men will look super out there — like bright red lipstick! *L* But just red enough to tie in with the bridesmaids’ cranberry dresses. The rest of the ensemble includes the full point collar ivory shirt, cuff links, socks, and patent shoes. All that the guys have to bring with them is some styling gel and their underwear.
The rental cost for the higher end tuxes range from $99-$149 CAD each. They have a year-round promo where the groom’s rental is free if also renting 4 additional tuxes for the bridal party. They carry tuxes from 2-year-old tiny tot size to Big-n-Tall. Another good thing about Moores is that the other people in the party renting tuxes do not need to go to the same Moores location for their fitting. They can visit any Moores store location and just present the Group no. For out-of-town men, they can get measured by their own local tailor. Moores can supply a measurement card that the out-of-towner can take to their tailor and send back via email or snail mail to Moores.
Colin was quick to ask what colour my dress is - white or ivory. My dress is light ivory. Colin told Mr. Bloom that he would never book white shirts for them or else I would look dingy in person and especially in our photos! I knew this beforehand but thank goodness Colin knows this too. I can rest assure that when the groomsmen return with Mr. Bloom for their fitting that they are in good hands. This way, I don’t have to go with them and can attend to other wedding chores. Yay!
Other points to note about Moores, they only have clip-on ties. Not the same front clip-on ties that we used to wear as kids but the kind that clips at the back. This works for us in case our menfolk don’t know how (or are too hung over?) to tie a nice knot. At first I wanted them to wear a wing-tip collar because it’s not often a man can wear such a shirt. Colin suggested that the point collar would be better since the clip-on part would show at the back of the wing-top collar. I think the whole ensemble looks very handsome and comfortable.
I can’t wait to see my groom and his groomsmen in their tuxes! Oooooh… James Bond hot. The Daniel Craig’s James Bond anyway! Colin, our consultant, knows his stuff. He told us that the other James Bond’s wore the single button Shawl tuxedos, not the notch or peak tuxes. Perhaps the sight of Mr. Bloom all decked out in a tux will have me “shaken” and my insides all “stirred”. Bad pun! =)
