US vs Canada… Bridal shop prices

I was amazed by how much prices differed between the US and Canada.  Our Canadian bridal shops mark up their prices by double or triple but the kicker is the items are still almost double the marked-up American item!  Even our Michaels’ craft stores are much more expensive than our US counterparts.  I visited the bridal shops here in Vancouver and also Canadian websites across Canada.  Crazy prices.  $50 for 50 miniature bottles of bubbles???  Specialty paper prices?  Insanely high!  Even our selection of wedding items is minimal compared to the US shops. *SIGH*

To keep from going broke or sacrificing my wedding ideas, I did my research and bought most of my decor and accessories including veil, shoes, ribbons, tulle, CD jewel cases, unity candle, etc. from eBay or reputable online shops in the States.  I got the items shipped from the US.  The bonus was most of the items did not even get charged duty!  Even our Custom Gobo was still $50-75CAD cheaper than having it made in the US and courriered to Canada.  Oh!  Another charge I…

Our Reception Program…

We will have two Menu cards and two Reception cards/programmes.  I did the layout using MS Publisher.  The cards will be printed on 60lb Ivory Parchment paper, the same paper that was used in our Wedding invitations, using my Epson Photo Inkjet printer.  I will also be hot-gluing the cards onto the same cranberry red and ivory abaca fiber backing that was used in our wedding invitations.  I was going to make a Menu card for each seat but decided against it.  It will cut down on work and most of the menus will be discarded anyway except for the sentimental or packrats amongst our guests.

Below is our Reception programme:

Our Sit-Down Dinner Menu…

Yikes!  Our wedding website keeps sending me emails with the days counting down to our wedding!  Just 15 days to go!
Not only that though!  Those emails send out our (my… haha, Mr. Bloom!) Task Checklists!  So much to do in so little time.
I’ve planned and prepared but still there are tasks that cannot be done until closer to the date.  These include the seating chart, place cards, table cards, and menu cards.

Here is our Menu card.  We still have to have our final meeting with the caterers with the final head count and negotiate the vegetarian dishes and children’s dishes.  We ended up having more children attending than we thought.  Any child under 11 years old will be getting a kid’s meal.  I highly doubt toddlers will be able to eat a 6-course Italian meal.  Hopefully the caterer will be able to price accordingly.   Our contract is for 250 people.  Our count right now is 290 people!

We’re taking a shot and tying the knot!

Mr. Bloom and I discussed what we wanted to give to our wedding guests as thank you favours.  We decided on giving a CD to one half of a couple and a personalized shot glass to the other half.

Here is the image that I tweaked using Adobe Photoshop.

I guess I could have created my own drawing but there’s only 45 days left before the wedding!  I have my hands full with DIY projects and weekends booked with other weddings, showers, and parties.  I saw this lineart and thought it truly represented Mr. Bloom and I.

We thought the shotglasses would be perfect especially for the menfolk attending our wedding.  I priced out several manufacturers that produced in Canada or shipped to Canada.

I really liked the high quality laser etched shotglasses from Lasercraft.ca.  Their website can be found here:   http://www.shotglasses.lasercraft.ca/ .  These were the most expensive as the design and text are etched and not imprinted on the glass.

Sample of Lasercraft shotglass:

Another online website is CustomGlassware.com.  The glassware page is here: http://www.customglassware.com/imprinted_glasses_16.htm .  They
